The Special Operations Unit (SOU) provides the Department with a specially trained
team that can be deployed to handle specific situations requiring a tactical response.
The team is made up of elite officers
who are assigned to the unit after a challenging selection process.
The SOU team consists of three elements: hostage negotiators team, entry team and sniper team. The team provides a resource of tactically trained officers to be utilized when necessary to bring a potentially hazardous situation to a successful conclusion. The SOU team conducts advanced weapons and tactics training on a regular basis. The SOU team regularly engages in physical fitness training as well and officers assigned to the unit demonstrate their proficiency quarterly. SOU can be utilized in the following situations: hostage situation, barricaded persons, sniper incident, hazardous/narcotic warrant service, narcotics buy/bust operations, VIP protection, civil disorders, and natural or man-made disasters. |
